Blueberry Muffins

FOLLOW UP ACTIVITIES:

VOCABULARY

• blue
• berry
• muffin

MATH

• Blueberry Count
• Cut out 10 irregular "bush" shapes from green construction paper
• Number them from 1 to 10
• Children will count out the appropriate number of blueberries

• Count the number of empty muffins spaces in the muffin pan
• Ask "How many muffins can be made?"
• Count as your child fills each muffin tin with batter

SCIENCE

• Create blueberry dye
• Boil blueberries in 1/2 cup of water
• Strain the skin and seeds (if any)
• Paint (see Art below)

LANGUAGE ARTS

• Using the book: "Blueberries For Sal"
• In the book, both Sal and the bear are collecting blueberries
• Photocopy Sal and the bear
• Provide blueberries to "give" to Sal or the bear.
• Have your child identify which character has "less", "more" or "equal"

• Using the book: "Blueberry Mouse"
• In the book, the blue mouse hides in a blueberry patch
• Discuss other places that a mouse can live
• Describe their home and draw a picture
• Have your child dictate their story
