MATH

• Have your child predict how many grains of rice are in a teaspoon, tablespoon, cup, etc.
• You can actually count the number of grains on the teaspoon and children can use this as a reference as to whether there is more or less in the larger items

SCIENCE

• Observe different types of rice:
• Brown rice
• Whole grain rice
• Cooked rice
• Puffed rice
• Aromatic rice

LANGUAGE ARTS

• Rice Bottle
• Fill an empty soda bottle with rice
• Add letters, beads and small objects
• Seal the bottle
• Children turn the bottle and shake it to find the letters and objects
• You can add a checklist for your child:
• A - Apple
• B - Bear

• Rice Letters
• Let your child glue colored rice onto specific letter or to their name

ART

• Rice Mosaic
• PARENTS SHOULD PREPARE THE SEEDS BEFORE THIS ACTIVITY - DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD NEAR THE RUBBING ALCOHOL
• In a disposable bowl, soak rice in a solution of Rubbing Alcohol and food coloring (1:1 ratio - alcohol/food coloring)
• Dry on paper towels
• Let your child create a mosaic using the rice

RICE PLAY

• Fill a tub with rice
• Have the children measure, pour and scoop rice
• Your child can play buried treasure
• Hide various objects or pictures in the rice for children to identify and sort
• Practice using chopsticks by picking up pom poms
