There are many opportunities during cooking to introduce vocabulary. Here are a list of words to review specific to this recipe:

MATH

  • Chocolate Chip Count
  • Cut out 10 circles from brown construction paper
  • Number them 1 to 10
  • Have children count out appropriate number of chocolate chips and match them to the appropriate number on each "cookie" circle

  • Chocolate Chip Grouping
  • Make different groups with chips or cookies:
  • Have your child compare each group
  • Label "more" or "less"

SCIENCE

  • Show the concept of melting
  • Hold a chip in your hand
  • What happens? Why?
  • Discuss what will happen when the chocolate chips are placed in the oven?
  • Try holding other objects: ice, marble, etc.
  • Predict and compare

LANGUAGE ARTS

  • Have your child dictate the steps from the Double Chocolate Chip recipe

  • Supply a round piece of cardboard paper
  • Have your child add "chocolate" chips by dipping a Q-Tip into brown paint
