VOCABULARY
There are many opportunities during cooking to introduce vocabulary. Here are a list of words to review specific to this recipe:

Ice Cream Scoops 1 - 5
Provide 5 paper ice cream cones labeled with numerals 1 through 5
Provide 15 colorful paper scoops of ice cream
Children will count and stack appropriate number of scoops onto cone
SCIENCE
Freezing / Melting
Observe a scoop of ice cream sitting at room temperature
Document with pictures, timer and/or written description
Place it back in the freezer and compare
Make shape sandwiches by matching 3 sets of shapes
LANGUAGE ARTS
Milk To Ice Cream
Create (by drawing) or find pictures from a book or magazine of individual pictures depicting:
A cow
Milk being mixed with fruit or flavor
A freezer
Ice cream
Mix up the images and then have your child place them in the proper order to tell the "picture" story
Create your own ice cream flavor
Have children create a new flavor
Give it a name and describe how it’s made
Draw a picture
