There are many opportunities during cooking to introduce vocabulary. Here are a list of words to review specific to this recipe:

MATH

  • Ice Cream Scoops 1 - 5
  • Provide 5 paper ice cream cones labeled with numerals 1 through 5
  • Provide 15 colorful paper scoops of ice cream
  • Children will count and stack appropriate number of scoops onto cone

SCIENCE

  • Freezing / Melting
  • Observe a scoop of ice cream sitting at room temperature
  • Document with pictures, timer and/or written description
  • Place it back in the freezer and compare

  • Make shape sandwiches by matching 3 sets of shapes

LANGUAGE ARTS

  • Milk To Ice Cream
  • Create (by drawing) or find pictures from a book or magazine of individual pictures depicting:
  • A cow
  • Milk being mixed with fruit or flavor
  • A freezer
  • Ice cream
  • Mix up the images and then have your child place them in the proper order to tell the "picture" story

  • Create your own ice cream flavor
  • Have children create a new flavor
  • Give it a name and describe how it’s made
  • Draw a picture

  • After making your ice cream sandwiches, you can sing this song with your child:
