VOCABULARY

There are many opportunities during cooking to introduce vocabulary. Here are a list of words to review specific to this recipe:
  • chopsticks
  • wok
  • noodles

MATH

  • Pasta Sorting
  • Sort pasta by shapes

  • Weight
  • Introduce the concepts of heavy and light
  • Use a scale:
  • Ask your child "Which weighs more? Ten spaghetti noodles or ten elbow-shaped pasta?"

  • Seriation
  • Have your child put various pasta in size order

  • Pattern Bracelet
  • PARENTS SHOULD PREPARE THE PASTA BEFORE THIS ACTIVITY - DO NOT LET YOUR CHILD NEAR THE RUBBING ALCOHOL
  • In a disposable bowl, soak Ditalini (shaped) pasta in a solution of Rubbing Alcohol and food coloring (1:1 ratio - alcohol/food coloring)
  • Dry on paper towels
  • Create a pattern on a string
  • Have your child continue the pattern
  • Once completed, tie the string together and place on your child's wrist

  • Make number shapes from cooked noodles

SCIENCE

  • Compare cooked versus uncooked pasta
  • What made the pasta change?

LANGUAGE ARTS

  • Noodle Letters
  • Have your child bend and shape cooked noodles into letters and shapes

SOCIAL STUDIES

  • Noodles Around the World
  • Discuss how you eat noodles at home

ART

  • Create pasta art with uncooked pasta
