Put 12 cookies in a large plate (you can use paper cookies)
Tell the children that 2 people will share these cookies
Provide 2 little plates
Children will divide the cookies in half; 2 groups of 6 cookies each
Return the cookies to the main plate
Tell the children that 3 people will share these cookies
Provide 3 small plates
Children will divide the cookies in thirds; 3 groups of 4 cookies each
Return the cookies to the main plate
Tell them 4 people will share
Provide 4 small plates
Children will divide the cookies into 4 groups of 3 cookies each
Return the cookies to the main plate
Tell them 6 children will share
Provide 6 little plates
Children will split them into 6 groups of 2 cookies each

Provide paper cookie jars with specific letters written on their sides
Provide paper or cardboard cookies with pictures of objects whose name begins with those specific sounds
Example:
Cookies with a “boat” on it would go in the B jar
