FOLLOW UP ACTIVITIES:
VOCABULARY
There are many opportunities during cooking to introduce vocabulary. Here are a list of words to review specific to this recipe:
dough
rise
melt
stretch
knead
flatten
MATH
Teach your child fractions
Ask "How can two people share this pizza?"
"How can four people share the pizza?"
Explain that half equals two equal pieces
Explain that a quarter equals four equal pieces
Show them the concept
SCIENCE
Pizza Box Solar Oven
Paint the outside of an empty pizza box black
Draw a square on the top of the pizza box leaving a 1 inch frame
(ADULTS ONLY)
Using a craft knife, cut 3 sides of the square
Leave a back flap
Glue aluminum foil smoothly to the inside of the flap
Glue aluminum foil smoothly inside the bottom of the box
Open the box and tape plastic wrap to the underside of the 1 inch frame, sealing the opening of the lid (it should be air tight)
Place the pizza box outdoors in the sun with the flap opened
You can use it to make s’mores or melt mozzarella onto small pizzas
LANGUAGE ARTS
Have your child dictate about their silly pizza (see
ART
below)
Sequencing
Create (by drawing) or find pictures from a book or magazine of individual pictures depicting:
A cow
Milk being churned
Mozzarella cheese
Mix up the images and then have your child place them in the proper order to tell the "picture" story
ART
Pizza Collage
Cut a large brown circle from brown construction paper
Cut a slightly smaller red circle
Cut up "shredded" yellow paper
Supply "toppings" cut from construction paper or pictures from magazines
Have your child create their own silly toppings
Have your child "make" their pizza by creating the collage
FINE MOTOR SKILLS
