FOLLOW UP ACTIVITIES:
VOCABULARY
There are many opportunities during cooking to introduce vocabulary. Here are a list of words to review specific to this recipe:
herbs
parsley

stem
leaves

tender

Veggie Patterns
Setup a vegetable pattern and have the children continue it:
"peas, carrots; peas, carrots; peas ____"
SCIENCE
Fruit & Vegetable Detectives
Explain how in science, fruit have seeds; vegetables are parts of plants that we eat (leaves, stems, roots, etc.)
Celery Is A Stem
Stand a celery stick in red water (use red food coloring)
Have children predict what will happen
Leave out overnight
Observe how the leaves will turn red
How does this happen?
LANGUAGE ARTS
Have the children create words with uncooked alphabet pasta
ART
Soup Art
Provide a disposable bowl to the children
Cut out vegetable pictures from magazines (or create and cut your own from colored construction paper)
Provide uncooked alphabet pasta
Have the children collage a 3D bowl of alphabet soup by gluing the objects into the bowl
