There are many opportunities during cooking to introduce vocabulary. Here are a list of words to review specific to this recipe:

SCIENCE

  • Vegetables Or Fruit
  • Fruit contain seeds and vegetables are edible parts of plants
  • Observe the ingredients and decide, by scientific definition, if they are fruit or vegetable
  • EXAMPLE:
  • Pepper = fruit
  • Carrot = vegetable

LANGUAGE ARTS

  • Sequencing
  • Create (by drawing) or find pictures from a book or magazine of individual pictures depicting:
  • A cow
  • Milk being churned
  • Cheese
  • Mix up the images and then have your child place them in the proper order to tell the "picture" story

  • Introduce Spanish Numbers
  • SONG: 0 Amigos / 10 Friends (sung to the tune 10 Little Indians)
  • "Uno, dos, tres amigos" (Hold up 1, 2, 3 fingers)
  • "Cuatro, cinco, seis amigos" (Hold up 4,5,6 fingers)
  • "Siete, ocho, nueve amigos" (Hold up 7, 8, 9 fingers)
  • "Diez amigos son" (Hold up 10 fingers)

SOCIAL STUDIES

  • Tortillas derive from Mexico
  • Take this opportunity to introduce Mexican culture
  • Show children pictures or bring in objects that they might be familiar with that are traditionally from Mexico
  • EXAMPLE
  • Sombrero
  • Piñata, etc.

FINE MOTOR SKILLS

  • Folding Halves
  • Practice folding different shaped papers in half, edge to edge
